SILO GARDENS
Hand Caning Class
Hand caning rushing chairs is a time-honored technique that uses wicker strands to create a seat in chairs - it's a challenging and rewarding technique that originated in ancient Egypt. (Archeologists have found a woven daybed that belonged to King Tutankhamen!)
In this class, we’ll guide you through the process of breathing new life into a chair of your choice!
Each delicate strand is woven by hand through small holes along the seat’s perimeter, creating a beautiful, intricate pattern. While the entire caning process can take 8 to 20 hours, we’ll equip you with the skills, tools, and materials to get started. If you can’t finish during the workshop, no problem! You can complete it at home—or, if you’re local, drop by the studio during open hours to continue your project.
